Janica Kostelic
JANICA KOSTELIC
Janica Kostelic, ‘The Snow Queen of Croatia’, was only sixteen when she first competed in the winter Olympics in 1998 in Nagano. Her real breakthrough in skiing happened in the 2000-2001 season where she won the overall World Cup title. When she arrived back in her home town Zagreg, she was presented with 1256 roses – the number of points she earned that season. At the Salt Lake City Olympic Games Kostelic became the first alpine skier to win four Olympic medals in a single Olympic Games. In the Turin 2006 Olympics Kostelic didn’t let the Croatians down, becoming the champion in the Alpine combined and taking the silver in the Super G. Unfortunately we will not be seeing Janica Kostelic on the slopes this season due to injury.
